Stone Harbor Museum President Jim Talone and Mayor Judy Davies-Dunhour with the collection of Stone Harbor Beach Tags during the Facebook Live raffle announcement.
Fran Burns, of Avalon, was the winner of the Stone Harbor Museum’s “One of a Kind Treasure” raffle, a shadowbox collection of a complete set of beach tags from 1971 to present. The raffle was originally scheduled to be drawn at the conclusion of Stone Harbor’s annual Christmas Parade over Thanksgiving Weekend. However, due to the inclement weather the parade was cancelled, and the drawing took place over a Facebook Live video. Mayor Judy Davies-Dunhour was joined by Santa and trustees of the museum to draw the winner. Held to benefit the museum to help continue their mission of displaying and preserving Stone Harbor’s history, nearly 8,000 raffle tickets were sold to win the complete collection of beach tags. The unique box was custom made by Doug Heisler of Jack's Cove of Chestertown, MD. Stone Harbor first introduced beach tags in 1971 with the first tag simply stating “Stone Harbor, NJ Season 1971” in a blue and white color scheme. The shadowbox also leaves space for the addition of tags to come. The Stone Harbor Museum is a non-profit organization that aims to acquire, preserve, display, celebrate and promote the history of Stone Harbor. Admission to the museum is free and donations are accepted. For more information, go to stoneharbormuseum.org.
