It’s a tale of two boroughs when it comes to Avalon and Stone Harbor’s beach-fill projects. As planned, Avalon’s beach fill was the first to be addressed by the Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. That project was completed on May 12. Meanwhile, the Stone Harbor beach fill started on May 21 but experienced a delay due to mechanical issues. The work resumed June 6. GLDD resumed on the north-end beaches from 80th to 87th Street. The second stage will target 89th to 115th Street, and finally 119th to 127th Street. Based on the current pace, the Stone Harbor beach fill is estimated to be completed by mid-to-late July.
