A Big Hit In A New Location!

The Stone Harbor Library, finishing the inaugural year in its new building at 9516 Second Ave., offers an ever-expanding variety of books, movies, audiobooks, programs and more. The local branch of the Cape May County Library system opened last winter and held its official ribbon cutting over Memorial Day weekend. “The first year has been great,” said Deborah Poillon, the director of the county library system.

“The number of items checked out went up by 10,000, the number of times the computers and wireless were used went up by 8,000, and the amount of people using the library went up by 23,330.”

At last count, the Stone Harbor branch had a total of 16,156 titles. In 2017, there were 24,171 checkouts, 12,225 computer uses and 38,405 visitors.

With the additional space at this location, the Stone Harbor Library is now able to offer many news programs for visitors. Making use of the kitchen area, cooking demonstrations are held once or twice per month and there is currently a 12-week program offering personalized weight management, titled Wiser Weigh. The new programs aim to cater to different age levels and skills. Among them are the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, practical meditation for all ages, and an adult and family program titled Easy Raw Fun that features programs on the raw-food movement. History buffs will enjoy Resisters and Rescuers, a monthly program focusing on World War II.

To obtain a Cape May County library card at the Stone Harbor branch, you must present proof of residency or property ownership in Cape May County such as a driver’s license or tax record. Residents of Ocean City and Avalon will be charged a fee of $90 per year to obtain a card due to non-affiliation within the Cape May County Library system.
