Avalon Recreation Director Chuck McDonnell will now also serve as the athletic coordinator for Avalon and Stone Harbor Schools as part of a shared-services agreement between the Borough and the schools. The agreement was passed by Borough resolution for a term of three years and became effective Aug. 1.
As part of his job description, McDonnell will coordinate programs through the Atlantic Cape Junior High League in basketball, cross country and track in addition to the youth programs already offered within the Borough of Avalon. Students will be able to join school teams and compete with other teams in the league, which includes schools in Atlantic and Cape May counties.
“This is an example of another positive shared-services agreement for the Borough of Avalon and the school districts,” McDonnell said. “Kids will now be able to engage in extracurricular activities and interact with other students from area schools through different sports programs. I am excited for this opportunity and am looking forward to the sports seasons.”
McDonnell was hired as the Borough’s recreation director in 2015. He currently oversees the daily operations of Avalon’s Community Hall, recreational facilities, activities and more. He previously served as athletic coordinator at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and as Middle Township’s recreation director. |
