Stone Harbor Museum Getting A Facelift
Posted February 1st 2022

Surface renovations are underway at the Stone Harbor Museum, giving the building a new and fresh look.
The work includes the replacement of ceiling tiles, installation of shiplap on display walls, painting, track lighting for displays, new technological enhancements, new flooring, and the installation of a new audio system to improve future speaker series.
“All the improvements will really enhance the wonderful artifacts and Stone Harbor memories that we are lucky to have,” said museum volunteer Teri Fischer.
The Museum remains closed during the renovations with plans to reopen in May. Until then, history-buffs can enjoy a variety of digital displays and updates via the Museum’s website (stoneharbormuseum.org) and Facebook page.
Highlights include weekly Tranquil Tuesday postings featuring beautiful and scenic photos throughout town, and Museum Minutes, brief videos detailing Stone Harbor’s historical background. New for 2022, the museum has begun Harlan’s Histories: Postcards from the Past with retired teacher Harlan Radford. Harlan spent his summers vacationing with family in Stone Harbor, and loves the island’s rich history. Stay tuned to the website and social media on Fridays for Harlan’s historical insights on vintage postcards he has collected through the years.
As renovations are completed, and the Museum is open full-time for the warmer months, stay tuned for a schedule of exciting programs and exhibits to enjoy including lectures, films, and the return of the popular children’s scavenger hunt. The Museum will also continue its Vintage Home Series, highlighting details Stone Harbor’s historical homes every month.
