Stone Harbor Museum Open to Virtual Visitors

The Stone Harbor Museum, while currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, remains active with a variety of digital programming available on its newly launched website and its social media accounts. Virtual visitors can enjoy fascinating facts, personal stories and scenic views of their beloved island.

January’s featured program highlighted a small but vibrant African American community located on 81st Street. Museum president Jim Talone hosts the virtual program with interviews featuring residents who grew up in the neighborhood including Doris Reddick, Rose and Greg Hudgins, Sharon Anderson and Angela Moore. The program was the first of many monthly talks scheduled for the museum, currently featured virtually. The talks will move to in-person once permitted.

Other virtual features include the museum’s popular Tranquility Tuesdays, Stone Harbor Stories, and Museum Minutes, released weekly featuring stories and tales from longtime residents, and scenic views of some of Stone Harbor’s most beautiful locations.

The Stone Harbor Museum is currently in the midst of its annual capital campaign, and is accepting support online at stoneharbormuseum.org. The museum will announce its reopening to the public once it is safe to do so. In the meantime, interested visitors can scan the new website or browse the many programs posted to the social media accounts!
